October 2004 Fine Woodworking Magazine, Current Work.

Cover of "Fine Woodworking" magazine featuring woodworking tools, furniture pieces, and article headlines, including a large bar clamp at the top and a wooden table and cabinet.

"Seward built this chest-on-stand (16" D x 24" W x 74" H) for a gallery exhibition of his work. The stand and door frames are made of curly walnut, and the panels are book-matched walnut crotch wood. "Opening the doors reveals a stack of graduated drawers faced in iridescent bird's-eye maple," Seward said. The piece has an oil and varnish finish."

"Michael Seward, An American Craftsman" By Walt Harrington, August 1996

A journalist from the Washington Post bought a coffee table of mine from the Main Street Gallery in Annapolis, MD. Imagine my surprise when he suggested that he write an article about my work for a popular magazine. It was a great honor to be portrayed by Walt Harrington in the pages of This Old House magazine.

Book cover showing a grayscale photo of a person’s face partly obscured by their hands, with the title "Michael Seward" in large letters across the center.
A person kneels in front of stacked wood planks on shelves, organizing or selecting pieces in a workshop. The "American Craft" logo is visible at the top right.

"Oiled and buffed, the cabinet is aflame, rich and warm in transparent reddish shades, and tight, lavish grains."
Walt Harrington

The Custom Furniture Sourcebook by Kerry Pierce.

This book from Taunton Press features the work of 125 American craftsman building custom furniture today. I'm proud to be included in this distinguished company.

A tall wooden chest with four drawers on long, slender legs is displayed next to text about M. C. Seward, a custom furniture maker.
A page from a furniture catalog featuring a wooden headboard, a wooden armchair with a woven seat, and a round wooden dining table.

"...to give his work a strong sense of visual unity, he sees to it that every bit of wood in a piece of furniture is taken from material harvested from the same log." Kerry Pierce

Chests of Drawers Outstanding Projects from America's Best Craftsman
by Bill Hylton.

I have also had several pieces of my furniture published in the Current Works section of Fine Woodworking magazine. They suggested my work to Bill Hylton, an author writing a book about designing and building chests of drawers.

Three photos show hands using tools to assemble dovetail joints on wooden boards, including clamping, gluing, and tapping pieces together with a mallet.

"...what hits you first is the figure of the wood. When you look closer, you see the meticulous craftsmanship."
