I've made several examples of this deeply carved Cherry
Rocker. It's a lot of work, and I could spend a month building one, much
of that time shaping with files, rasps and hand planes, and sanding,
sanding and sanding.
A thick plank of Cherry wood is hand carved into a seat. Birdseye Maple
back slats curve to follow the arch of the back. The joints are carved to
flow the pieces into a unified whole.
This rocker is inspired by the work of Sam Maloof,
whose rocker is an icon of hand-crafted furniture.
